Fight Club: Unarmed
Join Jered Shults for four weeks of punching, kicking, choking, falling, pulling hair, and more in this comprehensive course in unarmed stage combat! Special attention will be paid to keeping yourself and your scene partners safe. The class culminates in an evening showcase of fully choreographed fights. Extra time will go toward the acting component of stage combat and "selling" the fight (reactions! noises! body tension! story telling!). It's not just hitting the moves and maintaining safety: it's making a safe fight a good fight. Ages 16 & up! (Younger than 18 needs written parental permission.) This class meets on Wednesdays 11/19, 12/3, 12/10, and 12/17 from 6:30-9pm at Attic Salt Studios, 2002 Riverside Drive Studio 42-O, Asheville NC. There is no class on Wednesday 11/26 (the day before Thanksgiving). Testimonials: "Jered's humor and friendliness instantly sets you at ease as one of his students. And he makes some kickass fights!" "Jered is a hugely creative and adaptable fight choreographer. He is skilled across multiple types of fights, and has a great understanding of how different bodies will interpret movement. His fights are specific and tailored to the people fighting and the story being told; he works with actors to really sell the story of the fight, not just to do some cool moves. (Although there are cool moves!) And he's always fun, keeping the atmosphere in the room upbeat and energetic. "

Lucid Body Level 1
Lucid Body is a psychophysical process that reconnects the emotional and physical bodies, developing physical listening, grounded presence, and an expanded creative range. We’ll focus on grounding and alignment, learning to build a sustainable actor who works from truth, not tension. Classes include a rigorous warmupembodied movementpartner and ensemble exercises, and character improvisation. Together we’ll explore Carl Jung’s ideas of persona and shadow and use the chakra energy centers as tools to understand human behavior and intent — and to incorporate that understanding into truthful characters for stage and film. Through deep, introspective work with habits and blocks, we make space for new impulses, authentic connection, and embodied creativity. This series will also feature special guest teacher Erica Harte, bringing her expertise and warmth to enrich our exploration. There are very limited spots available, and few opportunities to take Level 1 in the Southeast, so early registration is encouraged! Ages 18+ only. Tuesdays, Nov 18-Dec 16, 6:30-9:30pm at Attic Salt Studios, 2002 Riverside Drive Studio 42-O, Asheville NC

Speak the Speech
Nemesis's flagship course returns for the first time since 2023! Join Nemesis Artistic Director Melon Wedick for a deep-dive into the fundamentals of speaking Shakespeare knowledgeably and conversationally! This class covers:
  • paraphrasing (restating Shakespeare's words in modern vernacular, to help with understanding and gaining ownership over his complex language)
  • operatives (the key information the audience HAS to hear)
  • phrasing (parceling the text into units of meaning)
  • imagery (developing specific and vivid imagery and using intonation and physicality to convey it to an audience), and
  • scansion (understanding what the meter of the lines tells you about character, stage directions, and pacing).
These skills combine to give you all the tools you need to speak Shakespeare's words as naturally as if they were your own. At the end of the class, students will have a memorized and prepared verse monologue suitable for use in auditions. Ages 16 & up. In cases of financial hardship we can offer a limited number of scholarships or installment payment plans. Contact melon [at] nemesistheatre.com for more information. Mondays AND Thursdays, November 17–December 18, 7-9:30pm at Attic Salt Studios, 2002 Riverside Drive Studio 42-O, Asheville NC. There is NO class on Thanksgiving (Nov 27).
